Hey Romania!
It's me, Rae Hachton! I'm super excited to talk with you!
I am the author of the Pretty in Black series. I enjoy Dark Romanticism Literature and wished I lived in Dracula's Castle.
I will be talking with you Live tonight. Anything you want to ask, leave me a question in the comment box and I will respond!

Welcome, Rae ! >:D<
hello, Rae!
How are you doing?
I have some questions, like...
Do you want to come in Romania?
and...
What's your bigest wish?
Hihi, it's like a small interview :))
Welcome! It's such an honor for us to be talking with you today!
I know this quwstion is asked over and over again, but I want to know:>
What inspired you to write " Pretty in Black"?
Hey Alex! :D
Hey Sabryy: I DO want to come to Romania!!
Yes, I'm excited to be speaking with you!
My Biggest Wish is probably, in the future, to see Pretty in Black on the Big Screen—a movie!
I love answering this question: What was my inspiration for Pretty in Black:
Answer: It was several things, really, that all occurred at the same time.
The first thing was this: I was in a cemetery in March 2011 late one night and I thought I saw two lovers laying atop a grave, but their embrace looked tragic. I wanted to know why they were there so late at night and why were they so sad?
The image of them stayed with me for days.
Second thing: I heard this song called "My Time's Up" by The Raveonettes and it was absolutely beautiful.
After seeing the apparitions in the cemetery and hearing that song, the story began to click with me. I began writing it a few days after.
yay :x so awesome. but you still don't know who were they?
Wow:D After reading about your book on this blog, I wanted to read it ever since.
The idea was very interesting.
Nice! Pretty in Black has a HUGE cliffhanger. Is there one in Black Satin?
I do not even believe they were real? I think they were just imaginary or something? They may have been real, but when I saw them, they appeared to be in their own little world, and didn't notice me at all. But, I will never forget that.
Wow :x
I really really really really...
...wait...
really really really...
...still wait...
really really...
...WANT THE BOOK!
I just listened to "My Time's Up" by The Raveonettes, and it's really beautiful:X
Which is/are your favorite book/books?
Thank You Luliks.
Hey Christyna. I know, right! Pretty in Black did have a BIG cliffhanger. There isn't a cliffhanger in Black Satin. The book wraps up everything that happened in book one, and two. However, the ending will probably make you curious as to what happens next. :D
You guys are awesome!
Yes, the song "My Time's Up" is a personal favorite of mine, and was the main thing that inspired this entire series.
My favorite books are a lot of the Dark Romantic classics such as Dracula, Wuthering Heights, and Frankenstein.
And I absolutely LOVE a lot of the YA Literature such as Nevermore by Kelly Creagh and Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel.
I'm already working on Book Three, Raven in the Grave. :) I'm the MOST excited about this one.
Also, the first three books in the series are named after Raveonettes songs, LOL :D
That's awesome!:D
After you finish this series, what will you work on next ?
God, there are a lot of books which I really want to read, but I can't buy them in romanian...
Alex, eu una iti recomand sa incerci sa iti accepte la editura Litera sau Rao. Leda au foarte multe pe cap.
Rea, you always wanted to be a writer?
I have plans for two different Zombie books, one of which is a trilogy.
I think I did always want to be a writer, but I just didn't know it until about two years ago. I've always been an avid reader, and had daydreams ALL the time :)
Whew...I'm kind of relieved about the cliffhanger part :D Can't wait to read it! Talking to you makes me wish to re-read Pretty In Black ASAP
Hi Rae,
Do you have any advices for future writers? What are your favorite singers/songs/bands? Are you working on a book right now or are you planning one?
Thank you :*
Me too...I always have daydreams & because of that I can't concentrate on school:))...
But whenever I have time I write my idea in my diary:>
LOL @Christyna Yeah, I thought it was alright to do just one cliffhanger in this series, but there will be no more, promise :D
Advice for future writers? I think I would say Go For it! Start writing, right now. :) Favorite band: The Raveonettes LOL. I also LOVE a ton of music.
In fact, I listen to music as I write. This is a must. I even have soundtracks for each of my books.
Yes, I have about 3 books I'm working on currently :)
I wonder how do you feel when the readers are telling you that your book, YOUR Book, was awesome?
Hello Rae Hachton!
@ Luliks :D Yes, that was totally me when I was in high school. I couldn't concentrate!
I'm still that way, even today.
Creative Writing class was always a relief, because the teacher didn't mind me staring out the window!
I have a story about this actually. One of the scenes in Pretty in Black, is actually from a Day Dream I had back in high school, in tenth grade?
Anyone want to hear this story or read a small excerpt of that scene? I'm willing to share :)
PS: Writing in a diary/journal is really awesome idea. When you get older, you can look back at your younger self and that is amazing.
Hey Elena! *Waves*
@ Luliks When I hear that a reader enjoyed my book, I'm happy that they liked it, but it almost doesn't feel real. I'm always humbled by readers response. Readers inspire me and keep me motivated.
Yes we really want to read a small excerpt if you're willing:D
And yes, even if I started writing in my diary a couple of month ago, I'm happy because of that:>
Yay!
When I was in tenth grade, I had a daydream about a vampire, showing up outside the classroom window. He was gorgeous and he'd come to get me. [I LOVE vampires.] But he didn't want to drink my blood, he was warm to the touch, and the sunlight didn't bother him, so...he wasn't a vampire-vampire. He was something a little different...an evermore.
Here is the excerpt:
[it's actually much longer than I thought...so I will just give snippets of it at random]
I focused my gaze out the window. The breeze made the grass dance. A few people I knew here at school walked down the sidewalk toward the front office.
I turned my attention back to the Calc lecture, but a second later, a violin melody melted onto the airwaves and crept beyond the windows where I sat and into the classroom. I searched outside for the source of this sound, but I noticed that no one seemed to hear the sound. No one but me. The teacher kept talking and the students kept listening, scribbling notes. The sound painted a perfect portrait of a dark romantic paradise. Why could no one else hear this?
I looked outside again and that’s when I noticed movement from behind a tree and my pulse raced with anticipation. Around the tree, Marcus turned, until he faced me with a bright smile on his face. He played the violin effortlessly. My skin tingled. He stopped playing and tilted his violin against the base of the tree. Hands in pockets, he leaned against the tree, and gazed at me. I smiled. He never failed to mesmerize me.
How are you? How is the weather there?
Ohh... This is so awesome!
I can't wait to read it!:D
hey, yeah, that's a little secret, Alex & Christyna! Vampires?
No, not actually? The Evermore is related to the Vampire. Black Satin will explain how this came to be.
Also, I will just say this, there are also Gargoyles in book 2!
@Elena It is SUPER hot here, like...stay in the pool, drinking ice water...HOT. LOL.
@Luliks, thanks!
@Elena How are you? How is the weather there?
Rae what would you be doing if you weren't a writer?
I would probably be a photographer or a graphic designer. I love images. And art in general, really.
I am fine! Here is hot too:(
:( I know...I don't really like hot weather. I love fall time for sure, though! The weather is nice and breezy, and of course...my favorite...Halloween occurs then, too. :)
I really want to read Pretty in Black but I'm not so good at English.
I love fall too, because my birthday is then:D and it's not hot
English is HARD...I'm serious. I live in the USA, yes, but my parents were French/Filipino and so English didn't make a lot of sense to me, but since I went to American school, I guess I picked up on it...but sometimes it's still a total fail.
Yes :) I want people to be able to read my book, so I'm hoping, in the near future, it can be translated. This would be really awesome.
@Luliks really? when's your birthday?
When is everyone else's birthday? Mine is December 31! New Year's Eve.
This is also Marcus Marble's birthday :D
Will be my pleasure to read all your books and maybe to see the movie in the future.
October 3rd
June 2nd :D
June 8th :)
So, what is it like in Romania? I've always wanted to come there. It's like something I will totally have to do when opportunity presents itself.
Sweet! Got some summer birthdays there!
You have to see the Peles Castle and Bran Castle.
@Elena oh yes, that's a definite! :D
And be careful please! We don't want Dracula to kidnap you!:)) We still need you!:D
I sent some book swag to Alex and Christyna...signed bookmarks and buttons that match the Pretty in Black book, so when those arrive, you guys can probably get one! :D
You really gotta go in our caves, they're awesome :x
@Luliks LOL!! :D hehehe, I was watching Dracula last night!
You can come for a bath in The Black Sea. The water is warm now.
Yes, I've seen a lot of pictures and everything and have heard a lot about Romania. Oh my Gosh, I can't wait to come. I might even stay! It sounds so awesome!
And the monasteries from Bucovina:> You should go there too:>
*Smiles* I'm going to jump up & down when I finally do get there. It'll be like a dream come true. I'm gonna go see everything :D
I ask to everyone: What Literature is your favorite, do you think?
We hope that you will enjoy the stay!:> There are lots that you can see!
Take some pictures when you come here!
I will totally take pictures!!
What kind of music do you like?
will you tell us your opinion of romania after the visit?:> Because I really want to know if you enjoyed staying here:D
I like beautiful music...there's just so much I like! Music is a BIG part of my life.
If you wanna get like a sample of what I like to listen to, I will list some songs that are on the current Raven in the Grave soundtrack.
I'm not sure how to describe the music I like? Dark, Romantic, sometimes Melancholy or bittersweet?
Just...all kinds of stuff really.
Currently, I am listening to:
With Roses—Butterfly Messiah
Another Noise—The Raveonettes
Divenire—Ludovico Einaudi
Vessels—Memphis May Fire
Dead Roses—Mechanical Moth
Mad Rush [On Organ]—Philip Glass
Sad Transmission—The Raveonettes
Yes, I will let you know how I liked it! :D

I for one prefer the 'dark' music...that kind of music just make me feel... me:>
@Elena :D You're totally welcome. I love talking with you guys!
You hear any awesome songs, lately that you would recommend? I love music and listening to different songs. :)
@Luliks Oh my gosh! really? That's so awesome, really, really awesome!
Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I prefer the "dark" music too, because it makes me feel like...me, lol.
Which ones are your favs from the list? I'm totally curious now :D
Vessels—Memphis May Fire
With Roses—Butterfly Messiah
Dead Roses—Mechanical Moth
Sad Transmission—The Raveonettes
Another Noise—The Raveonettes
I used to listen to this songs with my friend, before she moved... and listening to these songs makes me remember all those good times I spend with my her:>
:) Totally kewl.
Yeah, I think this is why I decided to become a writer...I want to write for those who like the "dark" books. I loved them, as a teen, and still do. I think there definitely needs to be more.
Maybe what I will say it's stupid but this is the first time that I listening this kind of music and it's really awesome
I totally agree with you. Ever since I was younger (about 12 years old), I liked those kind of books, and some of my friend back then didn't understand why.
No, Elena, that's not stupid at all. It's awesome. I always like that feeling of listening to something new & different for the first time :D It's exhilarating.
@Elena don't worry:> Every day we discover and learn about something new:)
@Luliks, yes, same here. That's like...all I read when I was a teen, all I could actually relate to, and my friends didn't know why...sometimes they didn't want to talk to me. But hey, it's okay though, because those books are so awesome! They make me really happy :D
@Elena...that's so true :)
Yes, I know. I like to discover different things.
Me too. It's fun!

You guys just let me know when you want to stop talking LOL. This has been fun, though. Glad to chat with you.
Hi, Rae! How are you? ^^ Hope you remember me, you gave me an interview for my blog. ^^ Irinna Mihaila on Facebook. I think I asked you all I wanted to find out about you so..just WELCOME TO ROMANIA! Hehe!
After that I wanna read "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" by Edgar Allan Poe. I really want to re-read it.
Hey! I remember you! LOL :D You joining the chat? We're just talking about whatever.
Edgar Allan Poe RULES <3 Love him!
Mr. Poe was a big inspiration of mine when I wrote Pretty in Black.
I love him too<3 I remember one time in my english class, my teacher asked if we ever heard of Edgar Allen Poe. And I was like "Ohh I LOVE HIM!!!". The class started laughing, but I ignored them:D
<3 LOL! :D That just made me laugh. *shakes head* remembers high school + similar experience. Funny.
It even reminds me of this scene, from Pretty in Black:
Stars, they thunder
“Romance, who loves to nod and sing,
With drowsy head and folded wing,
Among the green leaves as they shake
Far down within some shadowy lake,
To me a painted paroquet
Hath been a most familiar bird—”
Teacher B**** tapped my desk. “This is not English Lit, Miss Piper. Please put your Poe poems away and turn your attention to the overhead.” I heard giggles permeate the room. I couldn’t stop thinking about last night. The moonflower still in my hair, asleep. I doodled red hearts on my graphing paper.
PS: Ellie, the girl character from Pretty in Black, LOVES Poe too!
I had a few more similar experiences:D & I laugh whenever I think about those:))
Alex, Rae and..everyone here. :D I would like to ask you something..So..
"Ok, then, now you have the chance to post on our blog. Really?
You can post a review, an author interview, details about a book, details about your OWN book! In Romanian or English. So, what do you say? There are some authors I'd like to persuade to join this giveaway-campaign: Nely, Cameo Renae,Madison Daniel, Jaidis, Lily Crussell and others.
